Ila (Mary Raine's granddaughter) was living with her parents, Hiram and Eunice Alford, and she was taking commercial course at Ottawa's school of Higher English and Applied Arts (cor. Kent Street and Laurier Avenue. Later, the school was re-assigned and became Kent Street Intermediate School).
