  Birthplace Cuttylough, Riverstown, Co Sligo, Ireland per Oath sworn by Hugh Morrison (Little Hughie) included in estate papers of Dr Richard Morrison, Victoria, B.C. "My father was Richard Morrison of Cuttylough Riverstown in the County of Sligo, Ireland and my mother was Rachel Reid ... Their eldest daughter was born in England and all the rest of family were born in Riverstown." - Hugh Morrison 16 Dec 1909. Immigration: His father came first and sent for the family later. Hughie and sister Ellen did not immigrate with their mother and other siblings, but stayed in Ireland until after their grandmother died. Hugh's 1st wife, Sarah Jane (Morrison) Morrison died in 1869, one day after delivering their daughter, Sarah. This daughter was raised for a time by her Aunt Jane and her husband, Thomas Rooney. This is according to a family history written by Glenn Morrison called 'The Morrisons of Farewell'. The 1871 Census shows Hughie newly married to 2nd wife, Ellen (married 1870) and Sarah is not with them. But by the 1881 Census she is back in this household.
