  • Notes
    • Edward McCrea was born on July 29, 1880 and was the first of William & Fannie's children to be born in Thessalon Twp, Algoma District - just a year after his family moved to their shanty in Livingstone Creek. Edward and his brother Robert were the only two of seven siblings who were given just one name, both shortened to the familiar Ed and Bob.
    • Ed was hired by the CPR in 1906, two years after his brother Bill and a year or two ahead of Robert. By now, his brother-in-law, William Jewkes, his oldest sister Lizzie’s husband, had already been working for the railroad for at least ten years.
    • In 1919, he married Margaret Mary Ann Duncan from Cloudslee - Mary's maternal grandmother, Margaret (McCrea) Love was likely a distant relation. They adopted a daughter, Phyllis, who was born in 1932.
    • Ed and Mary moved around a bit, living in the Dayton area and in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. In 1924 Ed became a Roadmaster with CPR and he was transferred to the North Bay section - they lived in Mattawa for the next 7 years. When Ed was transferred to the Nipigon subdivision, they moved to Schreiber for the next four years. In 1935, he was transferred to the Parry Sound subdivision and they made their home in Sudbury. When he retired, they returned to the Sault.
    • Ed’s obituary describes him as a well-known and respected citizen. He was an active member of the United Church and the Masonic Lodge and he took part in the social life of the various communities he lived in.
