| 2424 | 1790 Discharge from army due to Chronic Rheumatism whilst serving as Serjeant in Gibralter in 59th Regiment of Foot in Captain George Darby's company under command of Lieut. Gen. David Lindsay, Bart., recommended as a Chelsea Pensioner. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Maree 2011 - I can't get off the thought that John Allen Kingsmill's mum (Mary Allen b. ca. 1760-70) was a sister or close relation of Thomas Allen (b. 1770 Sligo). This is based on lots of curious but obvious co-incidences: For example, given the birthplaces of John Allen's children (Counties Mayo and Galway) and Henry Kingsmill's meanderings over Ireland as a career soldier. And, like John Allen Kingsmill, John Allen was an RIC man. Also, my James K Allen left Drayton to go to Dungog after his dad John died, to where both Henry Kingsmill and Thomas Abbott resided, the three of them active community leaders. I would go so far as to suggest that James, as an elder son, had certain familial "obligations" (ie in marrying Sophia Kingsmill with her family connections, an "arranged marriage" of sorts), and which I would further maintain by his later marriage, following Sophia's death, to the widow of Luke Kingsmill, Marianna, who herself was a daughter of Letitia Kingsmill. James K Allen's elder sister-in-law, Mary, married her Kingsmill cousin, Arthur John, another Abbott descendant. There are just so many other Abbott connections with the Allen family in Australia, as there are with the Kingsmill's in Ireland, that it must be more than a co-incidence! | KINGSMILL, Henry (I9858)

| 2431 | 1806 Birth date is from "From the West" by Michael Faul - the story of the Meredith family https://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=sharonmh&id=I14038 ID: I14038 Name: Henry MEREDITH Surname: Meredith Given Name: Henry Sex: M Birth: ABT 1792 in Ireland Death: 21 Nov 1868 in Ontario Burial: St Mark's Anglican Cemetery, Pakenham tp _UID: 93A1FCD29295C149B5168722523351EC69F0 Note: Henry Meredith of Pakenham owned SE1/2 Lot 5 Concession 8 in Pakenham Township and the log house and barns which he built were still standing early in 2006. His 4th son, Thomas lived on the Meredith homestead in Cedar Hill near Pakenham. Name probably Henry? listed in Pakenham, Lanark county, Canada West (Ontario) in the 1851 census (recorded as of January 1852) as head of household, age 60--only first intitial given. Others in the household were: wife E. age 45, daughters E. 17 and I. 5; sons R. 15, M. 13, H. 11 and T. 8, all born Ireland, and daughter A. 3, born Canada, indicating the family came to Canada about 1848. The family was Church of England. The 1871 online heads of households find the sons: Robert 40, in Marlborough, Carleton county; Matthew 30 in North Gower, Carleton county; Henry 26 and Thomas 22 in Pakenham (some discrepancies in ages, but not a concern?); all were farmers and Church of England. Tombstone indicates Henry was born County Sligo in Ireland. The 1851 agricultural census provides a fascinating glimpse into farm life at the time: Henry held 100 acres on the 9th Con., Lot E5 in Pakenham tp; he had 20 acres under cultivation; 9 acres under crops in 1851; 10 acres under pasture in 1851; 1 acre garden/orchard; 80 acres wild or wooded. In 1851 2 acres yielded 20 bushels of wheat; no barley or rye; 1 acre - 10 bushels peas; 3 acres - 3 bushels oats; no "B. Wheat" [buckwheat?]; 1 acre - 8 bushels Indian corn; 2 acres - 20 bushels potatoes; no turnips; 20 bundles or tons of hay; 20 lbs wool; 15 lbs. maple sugar; no cider; 8 yards fulled cloth; no linen; 12 yds flannel were produced on his 20 cultivated acres. ------------------------------------------------------------- | MEREDITH, Henry (I19254)
